The water tower was built in 1898 to supply the technological water to rolling stock and the marshalling yard in Łazy. Due to modernization of railway the tower stopped working in 1970s and hasn’t been used since. The project’s objective is a revitalization of the water tower and area around it and allocating it to general public use. The goal is to preserve existing form of the object with the addition of an external elevator on an eastern wall. Due to aesthetic value of the groin vaults in the cellar, this space will be used for a bookshop, room with a projector and small display space. Information point and a café will be placed on the ground floor. First and second floor will have spaces for meetings, lectures and workshops. Third floor will be an open space dedicated for art classes for children and the fourth floor area will be for exhibiting their work. The water tower is located on the long-distance cycling route going through whole Silesia, that’s why site plan includes spaces for cyclists to take a rest from the travel or take part in outside activities planned for both people living in the city and tourists.
